Your interior designer journey has been remarkable, starting from your early days in Italy and leading to your successful career in New York City and London. How has your diverse background and cultural exposure influenced your design style and approach?

I've always looked for inspiration from my surroundings and travels. My heritage has a significant impact on my work. Recently, we were asked to redesign an iconic Italian restaurant in Knightsbridge. As I'm half Italian, born and raised there, I'm very familiar with the culture and food; it made designing so much easier and incredibly enjoyable.

The places I've lived have also left their mark on my designs. Italy has an old-world elegance, NYC has an incredible energy, London -a mix of the iconic and the new, and the Cotswolds a sense of serenity and stillness.

How would you describe your interior design style, and what do you believe sets your work apart from others in the industry?

I have always been interested in everything surrounding design and have an eye for details. For example, we work all across London, and each area has its style. When we're designing a home, we always take into consideration the local area.

Our clients lead our style; we keep them and their stories at the heart of everything we do. Also, we offer the complete package, taking care of everything and removing any stress associated with house renovations. Our in-house construction team works with experienced designers for a smooth, efficient process.

Hamilford Design has been involved in many projects, from London residences to country estates and hotels. Tell us about the most memorable projects you worked on.

The Pool House in Lakes by YOO was a great project; I love a challenge! This house is unique, with the heated rooftop pool enjoying incredible views over the countryside and out onto the lake. There were structural challenges throughout the build, but we produced an astonishing result.

Another memorable project is Westcott Lodge - a beautiful 9,000ft 1746 Grade II listed home in Hammersmith, London. Originally a vicar's residence, it was restored after being damaged during World War II. We kept the rich history of the building at the heart of our project and were constrained by the listed status but transformed it into a modern family residence.

We always keep the clients at the heart of our projects; the owners had lived in Hong Kong, so they wanted the interiors to give a nod to Asian design but also to reflect their French heritage. We chose rich, opulent tones for our colour palette, luscious forest greens and classic monochrome. We created depth with texture using interesting wallpapers, artwork, and soft furnishings. This helped give the house warmth and character. It was an exciting and rewarding experience for me as a designer.

The Lakes by YOO properties that you've designed feature Ecohardwood oak flooring. We would like to hear more about those projects: what architectural and interior design elements have you selected and why?

I love that Ecohardwood oak flooring is strong and durable and also natural and eco-friendly. The area is a protected landscape safeguarded as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Lakes By YOO invested in sustainability. For example, motorized boats or jet skis aren't allowed so as not to disturb the local wildlife.

Each The Lakes by YOO property has its distinct character. Every home we designed here pays homage to the local landscape and uses lots of sustainable materials, like sustainable wood flooring. With our lake house, I wanted a muted colour palette with natural materials that complemented the surrounding area, and I also added some subtle jewel tones.

Flooring plays a vital role in interior design, both aesthetically and functionally. Do you have any tips or advice for anyone choosing the flooring for their project?

People should consider how they utilize the floor; for example, high-traffic areas need something especially hard-wearing and stain-resistant. The colour tone of the floor used should be paid particular attention to. As designers, we use mood boards to see how fabric swatches and finishes work against the floor; this is a tip I advise everyone to do.

Lighting is essential; a large room with lots of natural light can carry off a dark flooring, but it's all about balance.

What advice would you give someone undertaking a renovation project to achieve a successful and visually stunning outcome?

Don't be afraid to push the boundaries and your comfort zone.

Which architecture/interior design elements are your favourites?

We live in boxes, so using curves is essential. Architecturally, arches and curved staircases can add intrigue and depth to a space while creating a sense of moment and flow. The classic kidney-shaped sofa and curved accent chairs are some of the more sculptured pieces we love and are easy to incorporate.

And are there any trends that you hope will never come back?

I am not a fan of feature walls; they date quickly, show a lack of commitment, and would work better on a bigger scale. We have recently commissioned some beautiful hand-painted murals and wallpapers. We're seeing a trend for textured wallpapers up against panelling.

Where do you look for inspiration?

I get inspiration from travelling. Also, from restaurants and hotels I visit, even books I've read have influenced my designs. I visit design fairs to find new suppliers and find them a great way to ignite a creative spark.

When you're not working, how do you like spending your time?

I spend as much of my free time as I can in the Cotswolds; I have many friends nearby, and we enjoy getting together and hosting dinners. I designed many features in my Lakes home, such as my boys' bunk beds and hand-selected pieces from our travels, so it's a really special place.

Lastly, what new and exciting projects do you have in the pipeline?

We have recently been involved in some exciting commercial work, which has been well-received and nominated for prestigious design awards.

We used Ecohardwood flooring for our new loft conversion. The process from start to finish with Mantas and all the team was smooth. We also purchased doors which complete the room. We are delighted with the outcome and wouldn’t hesitate in recommending them.
We recently purchased Ecohardwood engineered oak wood flooring in the Tobacco colour and we couldn’t be happier. The quality is excellent – well made, with a beautiful natural finish. We installed it throughout the whole house and it has completely changed the look and feel of the space, giving it a warm, modern and very natural feel. We did apply a premium hardwax oil, which enhanced the tone and added extra protection. We are extremely happy with our choice and would definitely recommend this floor to anyone looking for great quality and a timeless look.
I bought the floors for 1 of my project. They look amazing, worth every penny. The client is so happy with this flooring. Next projects will suggest to my clients to get this floor. Easy to install...One of the staff which I deal with ( name Renata ), was really helpful. Thank you Renata. Definitely recommend this flooring.
We were on the hunt for the perfect Chevron oak parquet to match our Parisian-style home, and we’re so glad we found you guys! The colour, the quality – everything is absolutely spot on. The customer service was fantastic too – friendly, helpful, and super professional. Big thanks from our whole family (including Shrek, our very spoiled British Blue cat)!
I recently worked on my kitchen showroom and chose EcoHardwood for the flooring. They have a beautiful new showroom, and I’m thoroughly impressed with the quality and variety of colors they offer. The team were extremely informative and knowledgeable, and they helped me make the best choices. Love my DUNE colour! The entire project turned out wonderfully, and I’m very satisfied with the results.
